An Elk Guards the Entrance
Photographs from an early morning visit to this abandoned home in the
northwest United States. Standing in the backyard in the pitch black
waiting for the sun to rise, within 45 minutes the faint sound of robin
calls could be heard somewhere in the distance. As the light in the sky
slowly increased, and my eyes adjusted, I took a quick peek around the
inside of the home. There were many personal belongings left behind and
very little evidence of squatters. The clothes on the bed
really made it seem as though the house was vacated quickly and no one
ever returned. It looked as though rodents had done some damage to the
clothes on the bed and had left a considerable amount of feces
throughout the kitchen. Once again, left to wonder about the history, and
departed with a pretty profound feeling of sadness. The pictures are
presented in the order they were taken to reflect the progression of
emerging daylight.
